I believe that technology can be, and in many cases already is, a powerful agent of change for education in our country and beyond. It has the power to tear down the four walls of the classroom and expand learning opportunities exponentially. Recent developments in social networking, mobile technology and creative tools have the potential to give students and teachers extraordinary capabilities to connect, publish and take ownership of their own learning.

For this reason, I believe that the next Secretary of Education and Director of the Office of Educational Technology MUST be individuals who not only understand the impact of technology on teaching and learning, but need to personally USE the tools in their daily personal and professional lives.

In the spirit of open government, the individuals that I believe most exemplify these ideals, would have my recommendation for these two crucial positions in the next administration are:
  • David Warlick
  • Wesley Fryer
  • Will Richardson
  • Carol Anne McGuire
  • Deneen Frazier Bowen
  • Hall Davidson
  • Scott Smith
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this historic and important moment for the United States of America.

Mike Lawrence
